For the ChatterVOX® Model 100 (Clarus™)
Genuine ChatterVOX® microphones, chargers, cables and cases fit and sound the way the amplifier was designed. Look-alike parts rarely do. Order from an approved distributor or from ELT Service.
HM100 headset microphone
The standard ChatterVOX® headset. The band rests on top of your ears, with the boom on the right. It keeps the microphone exactly where it belongs, however you move, and gives the highest boost.
How to fit it
- Fit the headset over the top of your ears and around the back of your head, with the boom on the right.
- Position the capsule beside your mouth. NEVER in front of your mouth.
- Bend the boom gently to bring the capsule 1/2 to 3/4 in from the corner of your mouth. The boom is made to be positioned, not bent hard or folded back on itself.
- Turn the capsule so its flat side faces your mouth. You can feel the flat side through the foam.
- Plug in with the volume at OFF, switch on, and increase the volume to approximately the 10 to 11 o’clock position. Then back it off slightly.
Beside the corner of the mouth, never in front of it: a capsule in the path of your breath gives a breathy voice and “popping P’s”.

CM200 collar microphone
A flexible microphone formed around the back of your neck, its end turned up toward your mouth. For people who cannot, or prefer not to, wear a headset.
How to fit it
- Form the flexible body around the back of your neck. Bring the end to the 11 o’clock position (from the left) or the 1 o’clock position (from the right) of your mouth.
- To keep it steady, form it over your shoulder, or wear it under a shirt or coat collar.
- Turn the last 2 to 3 in upward toward the corner of your mouth.
- Place the capsule (marked FRONT) 1 to 2 in from the corner of your mouth, out of the path of your breath. Breath on the capsule causes “popping P’s”.
- Plug in with the volume at OFF, switch on, and increase the volume to about the 11 o’clock position. Then back it off slightly.
One trade-off: turning your head far to the left or right changes the sound level. Keep head movements small while you speak.

Transdermal neck microphone
A neck band with a very sensitive capsule, placed on the soft area beside the larynx. It lets people with severe voice impairment, esophageal speakers and electrolarynx users benefit from ChatterVOX®.
How to fit it
- Place the band around your neck, from the left or from the right.
- Plug in with the volume at OFF, switch on, and increase the volume to about the 12 o’clock position while you speak at a steady level.
- Move the capsule to different spots on your neck until the sound is clearest. It is usually in the soft area beside the larynx, not directly on it. Do not expect a booming voice: the goal is clear speech with the least strain.
- Once you find your spot, set the volume to the most comfortable useful level.
This microphone is extremely sensitive. It is not for amplifying a normal voice; it lets people with severe voice impairment benefit from ChatterVOX®.

MM100 pencil microphone
A handheld microphone with a mute switch. Its flexible stand doubles as a lavaliere holder. Hold it at meals, or wear it on your chest as a lavaliere when you teach or present.
How to fit it
- Always use the foam windscreen: the capsule is very sensitive.
- Handheld: plug in with the amplifier switched off, keep the capsule away from the speaker (behind it, or more than 90 degrees off its axis), switch on and increase the volume slowly, then back it off slightly. If feedback starts, lower the volume or move the microphone farther from the speaker.
- Lavaliere: slide the spring-steel yoke onto the microphone body (press the arms of the yoke together to open it; remove and refit the windscreen as needed).
- Hook the lanyard to one leg of the yoke, loop it around your neck and hook it to the other leg. Secure each end with its slip ring.
- Set the microphone about 6 in below your mouth: about the height of a closed fist with the thumb extended. Hold it there with the black slip ring. Switch on and increase the volume slowly while you speak at a steady level, then back it off slightly.
Its mute switch is handy at meals, in presentations, and as a quick stop for feedback. Lapel microphones are not recommended for ChatterVOX®: they sit too far from the mouth, need too much volume, and feed back easily.
